ENTERPRISE 2.0: Collaboration NOT just another tool.

Today’s hype around Enterprise 2.0 and Social Media all funnel from Web 2.0 tools and technologies that are now finding some validity in our work and business environments. There has been a number of trials with some good and bad results, but all and all, professionals are finding value in these new tools and technologies as they apply them to their business processes, connecting and communicating with customers, partners, vendors and employees.

But collaboration is different, because it can encompass all the Web 2.0 tools and technologies (blogs, wikis, tagging, VoIP, IM, social networking, micro-blogs, and more). And it is cross-functional, not strictly designed for Marketing, Human Resources, IT, Sales or Senior Management. Lets face the facts, business is comprised or processes and projects. For example, your sales team is working to sell and close a fortune 500 client, this is a project with a strategy, game plan and outcome. You can apply that philosophy across your organization to any function or activity. So why not apply the newest set of collaboration tools to better support your team’s efforts – through collaboration; providing improved communications, knowledge transfer, single repository of information, transparency, productivity, while reducing costs.

2010 is on the horizon, a perfect time to test out collaboration on a new project or set of projects for next year.

SIDE NOTE:
Why not try to implement “flat project teams (fpt)” into your organization to better leverage the skills, knowledge and experience of professionals across your organization.
